The writers' association PEN complains about the discontinuation of literary programs for children and adolescents on public radio.
The German PEN center in Darmstadt explained that literary shares would be reduced in both radio and television programs WDR had left the program "Ohrbär", produced by the RBB and previously taken over by the NDR and WDR. Saarland radio had previously posted a children's program with short stories, PEN criticized.

Narrative programs are used to train young listeners in aesthetic sensibilities. They were made familiar with current topics, developed empathy - and learned to listen, said the PEN center. This characteristic is indispensable for a democratic society.

The Writers' Association emphasized that it was not an acceptable solution to move literary programs exclusively to the digital, audio stores and the Internet. On the contrary, public service broadcasting should expand literary programs - also for children and young people.
