After several top German athletes switched to training in the USA, the German Athletics Association (DLV) wants to set up an elite training group.
One has to find out that the offers of the association's own promotion system for some of the world-class athletes cannot keep up economically and in the context of fascination, DLV Director General Gonschinska told “Sport Bild”. The DLV therefore wanted to develop a pilot project in an “attractive city” that might also be of interest to athletes from all over Europe, said Gonschinska. They are currently looking for economic support.
Most recently, World Champion Malaika Mihambo (long jump), Vice European Champion Gina Lückenkemper (100 meters) and World Cup bronze winner Konstanze Klosterhalfen (5,000 meters) switched to the USA for training.
