After the writer Jörg Bernig retired, the Radebeul city council elected his competitor Gabriele Lorenz as head of the cultural office.
The decision for the 58-year-old from the Ore Mountains was made according to a large majority. The Romanist, Germanist and ethnologist has been Head of Culture, Tourism and Marketing at the Annaberg-Buchholz City Council and should take up the new post as soon as possible. The city council had presumably chosen Bernig, who is assigned to the new right-wing scene by critics, with the votes of the AfD and CDU. After public protest, Mayor Wendsche had appealed days later on the basis of the Saxon municipal code and submitted the decision to the city council for consideration. A few days before the new election, Bernig finally declared his resignation.
